ARIAKE collection Raft sofa by Keiji Ashizawa
Raft is a sofa family composed of a solid wood frame and changeable modules. It takes its named after its wooden frame inspired by a raft, a flat structure for support or transportation over water. The various compositions allow this piece to suit a variety of spaces and situations. The module can comprise of a 2 seater sofa plus either a cushion or a table module.
Designed by Tokyo-based designer Keiji Ashizawa for Ariake in 2019, the Raft sofa was created at a workshop in Morodomi where furniture designers, art directors, photographers and craftsmen lived, worked and ate together while collectively generating the energy and mutual trust that helped define the soul of the brand of Ariake. Ariake is a furniture brand founded by Legnatec and Hirata Chair, two factories from the furniture producing town of Morodomi in Japan. Named after the Ariake Sea in Southern Japan, Ariake meaning daybreak in Japanese. It symbolizes a new chapter for the two factories as they embark on a collaboration with a multiplicity of international designers.
