Cassina Zig Zag chair by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld
Named by it's striking shape - a Z-shaped cantilevered seat - "The zig zag chair" has become an icon amongst modernist furniture. Designed by Gerrit Rietvelt in 1934 - thinking feat, seat and back rest into one single minimalistic piece: 4 wood boards merged together with an elegant dove-tail joint. Hence highlighting the theme of Rietvelds production - the relationship between vertical, oblique and horizontal lines. Minimalistic, cool, and edgy would be just a few words to describe this contemporary classic.
